What possible actions could vendors take to reduce the harms at the end of a life of a product?

Open sourcing it, or holding the designs in escrow could be a possibility, for example. There may be legitimate security or copyright reasons that isn't practical.

What disclosure practices should be taken of items that require ongoing vendor support?
